(FM) -More than 30 civilians were killed on Tuesday following two days of inter-communal violence in Warrap State in central South Sudan, authorities said.
Warrap is the home state of President Salva Kiir. Violence has been rife in a number of areas in the state, including Tonj-North and Tonj-East counties, which have been the scene of recent clashes.
Warrap’s Information Minister Ring Deng told The Dawn English daily newspaper that 29 people were also wounded in the clashes involving three neighbouring communities of Luany-Jang, Lou Paher and Thiik.
He attributed the cause of the violence to cattle raids.
Mr Deng said efforts were underway to reinforce security in the restless areas in order to contain the situation that was rapidly deteriorating.
